Manuscript's Library

This department is the soul of the Institute with a rich collection of about 30,000 manuscripts in Sanskrit, Hindi, Bengali, Oriya, Punjabi etc. In addition to 200 miniature paintings, images, coins, portraits etc. This library has royal edicts of lands donated by the emperors for construction of temples in the Braj area.

Reference Library

The reference library is also established in the Institute for research scholars and students. there are printed books on various subjects, dictionaries, research articles, thesis, magazines are available here. Researchers from India and abroad consult this library for their research work.

Conservation

Most of the manuscripts are found damaged, burnt or eaten by moths and insects. The Institute has developed a laboratory for their conservation and making them available for research purpose. The specialists Conserve the manuscripts by fumigation, ink fixation, de-acidification, lamination, binding etc. through latest scientific methods. This department organises workshops and seminars on manuscript conservation for creating awareness of preservation techniques among the general people and manuscript holders. It also conducts courses to keep experts abreast with the latest techniques of conservation. The Institute has been approved as a centre of manuscripts' conservation by National Manuscripts Mission (NMM) for all U.P.

Preventive
The Vrindavan Research Institute is basically a manuscripts museum and conservation centre. the VRI conserves them through latest techniques and also makes the microfilms.VRI has a latest state of art laboratiory for conservation Important manuscripts are researched and published also for creating knowledge and interest and to save Indian specially Braj Culture. The Institute organises different types of Cultural programs, seminars, symposiums and workshops on various aspects of our Institute's aims and objectives.
Curative
The VRI wants to encourage people, manuscript holders, scholars of library science and others to gain practical knowledge about preventive and curative conservation of manuscripts. For this purpose the VRI started a one month course on manuscripts conservation from last year. The courses are recognised from Dr. B. R. Ambedkar for One Year P.G.Diploma Course in Manuscriptology and Manuscript Conservation. Prospectus and froms are available on site too.

Photography

The Photography Department of the Institute makes photographs of the important and old temples, monuments, historical places and vedeography of the important cultural programmers relating to the Braj Culture to save them for a long period. This department makes colour slides also of the historical and religious places of Braj area.

Micro filming

Management of some temples and renowned scholars have collections of manuscripts, which they do not want to donate. This department makes microfilms of such rare manuscripts for the Institute and provide them to the research scholars. For this purpose the Institute has latest microfilm camera and Microfilm me ivi VRI microfilm reader printer.

Training

Research

The Institute has published a number of bulletins and critical editions. The catalogues of Sanskrit manuscripts in 5 volumes, Hindi in 2 volumes, Punjabi, Bangla and Microfilmed manuscripts each in one volume have also been published by the Institute from the collection of our library. Others are to be published. The Institute publishes a literary and cultural quarterly magazine "raj Sella also. us Functions The VRI organises various functions viz, cultural programmes, seminars, exhibitions, workshops etc. to promote and save the Braj culture.

Publication

The VRI Provides research facilities to the scholars. Several scholars have been awarded the PhD degree in Hindi and Sanskrit for doing research work from this Institute. The VRI has published many research books. The Institute has published a number of bulletins and critical editions. Braj Salila
The Vri publish a quarterly magazine to promote and highlight cultural aspects of India and specially Braj. The activities of VRI are published in this magazine as well as a detailed report of cultural functions held in this Institute and also in the area.To order the "Braj Salila" you can mail us.
Chandrakala edt. by Dr. N. C. Bansal
This Prabandh Kavya is composed by Prem Chandra of Nagpur (Maharastra). It is in Braj Bhasha following the style of great poet Tulsidas. This composition is quite rare in the sense that it touches the sense of beauty as well as Bhakti. There is a very rare combination of folk and elegant literature. A very detailed introduction and appendices are useful to the scholars. Date of compostion 1807 A.D.
Sringar Sarsi edt. by Dr. (Mrs.) Kamlesh Pareek
It is a Sanskrit Composition on Naika Bhed. The manuscript was procured from Parvanikar collection of Jaipur. The editor has translated the original text in a lucid style.

Braj Culture Museum

The Braj Culture museum is established to display rare, old and important material, dresses, musical instruments, miniature paintings, manuscripts written on palm and bamboo leaves etc. The aim of this museum is to demonstrate archival material to show the ancient Braj Culture.
